What To Expect
Kintsugi is one of Japan’s most deeply symbolic techniques, reflecting the country’s philosophy and way of life.
Rather than discarding broken items and buying new ones, kintsugi embraces the idea of repairing and continuing to use them—embodying the spirit of mottainai (a sense of gratitude and avoiding waste). This tradition has been passed down and refined over centuries.
Workshops using 100% natural lacquer are rare, and few places teach the proper handling of this delicate material.
At Casa Tocoton, the kintsugi experience is led by Kristina, a Portugal-born artist who has spent years in Kyoto working with lacquer and clay.
You can choose to participate in this workshop at either Kristina’s studio in Kyoto or Casa Tocoton in Osaka.
